Finding the correct replacement part for a Hyundai or Kia is not always as simple as sharing the model name. Two vehicles that look nearly identical can use different components because of their production year, engine, trim level or regional specification. Your VIN, also called the chassis number, gives a parts specialist a much more reliable starting point.
What is a VIN or chassis number?
A Vehicle Identification Number is a unique 17-character code assigned to most modern vehicles. It records important manufacturing information and identifies the exact vehicle, rather than only the model family. This helps distinguish between variations that may use different filters, sensors, brake parts, belts, lamps or body components.
Where can you find it?
Depending on the vehicle, the VIN may appear in several places:
- At the lower edge of the windscreen on the driver’s side
- On a label inside the driver’s door or door frame
- On the vehicle registration card
- In the owner’s manual or service records
Send a clear photo or type the number carefully. Characters such as 0 and O can be confused, so a photo is often useful.
Why does the VIN improve part matching?
A model name may cover several generations and engine choices. The VIN helps narrow the search to the correct production details. It can also help confirm whether a component changed during a model year or differs between GCC and other regional specifications.
What else should you send?
The VIN is extremely useful, but the best enquiry includes a few additional details:
- Hyundai or Kia model and production year
- Engine size or engine code, if known
- Existing part number, if visible
- Clear photos of the old part, connector and mounting points
- The side or position of the vehicle, such as front left or rear right
